Part III of my Immune Booster series is all about apple cider vinegar, a product most of us are familiar with but few use to its fullest potential. Besides being a base for delicious simple salad dressings and BBQ sauces, apple cider vinegar has a host of health benefits, both short and long-term. It’s an elixir essential to my daily routine, and an easy addition to yours too!
More than any other brand out there, I trust Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, first introduced by health pioneer Paul Bragg way back in 1912. More than a century later, it’s still the same raw, all-natural product, gaining more fans with each passing year. And for good reason! Pick up a bottle at your local supermarket and right away you’ll notice its cloudy appearance, a much different look from other clearer, more highly-processed products. Bragg’s is unfiltered, unheated and unpasteurized, containing the enzyme-rich ‘Mother of Vinegar’, which can aid digestion and probiotic health. I typically take 1-2 teaspoons in a glass of water after meals. (Avoid drinking it before eating, as it can upset an empty stomach.) Vinegar has even been shown to lower blood sugar levels in people with and without diabetes. Amazing!
Beyond the internal benefits, apple cider vinegar has a variety of topical applications as well. Use it as a skin cleanser and toner, clearing pores and drawing out excessive oil. You can also apply it as a post-shampoo conditioner for increased shine, volume and a healthier scalp. It’s as useful in the medicine cabinet as it is in the pantry.
Be sure to consult your physician before adding apple cider vinegar to your daily regimen, and visit the Bragg website for useful tips, recipes and nutritional information. I know you’ll love it as much as I do!
