Healthy - From the Outside In

We often forget that our skin is our largest organ and whatever we put on it or encounter can directly affect our health. Our skin is our first line of defense against environmental toxins, harsh chemicals, pollutants, and viruses. We should be doing everything possible to keep our skin happy, healthy, and in tip top shape for our protection. Although this may see complicated, you can make skincare easy using a few of my favorite products.  

Harsh weather conditions, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and consistent dehydration can make skin look dull and dry. Exfoliating daily is a quick and easy practice to adopt - simply pick up a pair of exfoliating gloves at your local drug store. (Just remember to grab a couple pairs of Shower Gloves so you can launder them after a couple of uses.) I don’t recommend using the gloves on your face; however, Polish by SASHA is an excellent face exfoliator that can be used once or twice a week. Polish contains natural bamboo grains and fruit acids that dissolves dead skin cells - no harsh chemicals here! Exfoliating will get rid of the dead and dry skin that is making your skin look dull. Moisturizing your newly exfoliated skin is key in keeping your skin soft and supple. It can also ward off early signs of aging. Let's face it - no one wants to look older if they can prevent it. I prefer to use a thicker moisturizer like cocoa butter or virgin, unrefined, Coconut Oil (that stuff in your kitchen cabinet.) I like to think that if you can eat it and it can go on your skin it's a win win! I'm also a huge fan of African Botanics, they make a Neroli Infused Marula Oil that I won’t leave home without. It is packed with Vitamin A, C, and essential fatty acids that are very hydrating.  A little goes a long way and it is great during the harsher winter months. I take this oil with me whenever I travel.

At the end of the day just remember - taking care of your skin is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Properly hydrating your body will keep your skin healthy, but remember to exfoliate and moisturize daily too!
